🧠Introduction to Algorithmics
This foundational lecture introduces the field of algorithms - the art and science of problem-solving through computational methods. We explore what algorithms are, why they matter, and how to evaluate their effectiveness.

What is an Algorithm?
An algorithm is a finite set of well-defined rules for solving computational problems. Think of it as a recipe - you take some input (ingredients), follow a sequence of steps, and produce the desired output (finished dish).
Key characteristics of algorithms:
- Takes data as input
- Produces data as output
- Uses a sequence of computational steps
- Must always terminate
- Must produce correct output for all valid inputs

✅ Exam Tip: Remember that algorithms must be both correct AND efficient. A beautiful algorithm that takes 20 years to run is useless!
